The µITRON4.0 Specification is the latest version of the µITRON real-time kernel specification, a de-facto industry standard in the embedded systems field. The µITRON4.0 specification offers many improvements over previous versions. The most important among them is the definition of the Standard Profile which strictly specifies the standard set of kernel functions for improving application portability.

The µITRON4.0 Specification was designed by the Kernel Specification Working Group under the µITRON4.0 Specification Study Group, which is sponsord by the ITRON Committee, and its initial version (Ver. 4.00.00) was published in June, 1999. The revised version of the specification (Ver. 4.01.00) with minor improvements and corrections was published in May, 2001., and the latest version of the specification (Ver. 4.02.00) was published in March, 2004.

µITRON4.0 Validation Specification (Draft) was prepared by the ITRON Committee to institute a certification system for the µITRON4.0 specification, which is to certify whether a real-time kernel implemented on the µITRON4.0 Specification meets the specified requirements.
The draft specification, which can be downloaded from here, defines the items to be tested for confirming whether an implementation conforms to the specification, and the test procedures to be followed. It is applicable to the µITRON4.0 Standard Profile and Automotive Control Profile.
TRON Association is currently studying how to implement the µITRON4.0 specification certification system. As soon as a decision has been made on the method, the certification system will be put into effect.
